French energy firm bags North Sea contract

A French energy company has been awarded a two-year contract to assist Chevron’s developments in the North Sea.

Technip will provide engineering, procurement, installation and construction services in the Alder field, located around 200 kilometres North-East of Aberdeen, Scotland, as Chevron develops a subsea tieback to the Britannia Bridge Link platform.

The contract includes designing a 28-kilometre pipe system and various subsea works at a water depth of approximately 150 metres.

Bill Morrice, Managing Director of Technip in the UK said: “We are delighted to be reigniting our relationship with Chevron with this substantial contract that will allow us to support them in bringing the Alder field onstream… The UK Continental Shelf is still an exciting place to be with many major fields being developed both around traditional developments and in deeper waters West of Shetland.”

Technip’s operating centre in Aberdeen will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

A new report earlier this month found drilling activity in the North Sea is steady, with a positive forecast for the next two years.
