Coca-Cola caps water use

Coca-Cola is fizzing after announcing it has capped its water use and now only uses 1.4 litres for every litre of drink it makes.

The soft drinks giant's latest sustainability report also showed it has cut the carbon footprint of its operations by 15%.

As a sponsor of the London 2012 Olympics, it collected 15 million bottles at the Games, reprocessed and returned them to shelves within six weeks, according to the report.

The group is attempting to be green when keeping products chilled too, as all of the new coolers it has bought since January 2013 are HFC-free - something which many environmentalists want all industry to do.

John F. Brock, chairman and Chief Executive Officer said: “We want to lead our industry in being a responsible and sustainable business, by delivering today on the ambitious targets we have set and by leading change for a more sustainable tomorrow."

He said they are "proud" of continued progress but know there is more to do. Last year Coca-Cola joined other global brands to form a council looking at how businesses can be more sustainable.
