Hyundai’s factory to be powered by solar

Car manufacturer Hyundai Motor has announced plans to install a solar power plant in one of its South Korean factories.

Reports claim around 40,000 solar panels will be installed on the rooftops of four buildings of its Asan factory – covering 68% of the total rooftop area - in the South Chungcheong Province.

The new facility is believed to supply 11.5 million kWh of electricity every year – equivalent to powering around 3,200 households. By replacing existing thermal power plants, the rooftop solar plant is also said to cut carbon emissions by 5,600 tons, according to reports.

The installations are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
