Businesses and homes urged to use rainwater harvesting

UK businesses and households are being urged to use rainwater harvesting technology to offset the rise in water bills announced yesterday.

The call from energy saving advisors at Enevis follows Ofwat’s announcement of the above-inflation rise to household water bills. The regulator confirmed average household water and sewage bill would increase by 3.5% from April this year.

The firm suggests rainwater harvesting provides an environmentally friendly and cost-effective way of protecting against the price hike. Rainwater harvesting devices collect rain that falls onto roofs and can be stored for later use.

Richard Jones, National Sales Manager at Enevis said: “This technology, which can be as simple as a water butt under a down pipe from the guttering, provides water for a variety of uses inside your home or business – from toilets and washing machines to showers and baths.

"This helps to reduce mains water consumption and by association, water bills for all investors; from small-scale domestic users to multinational companies. Those with large roof catchment areas or space for above or underground tanks can enjoy substantial cost and environmental savings.”
