DECC reveals innovative CCS project winners

Universities and leading energy and technology firms are among 13 projects chosen for the Government’s £20 million Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) competition.

The winners, which will get cash from the £125 million research and development fund, were chosen by DECC for their innovation in CCS technologies.

The winners were revealed as DECC also confirmed UK the global leader in carbon trading earlier today.

Energy Secretary Ed Davey said: “These announcements help maintain the UK’s place leading the world in CCS and delivering an affordable and secure low carbon energy mix. Carbon Capture and Storage is a huge opportunity for our world-class research industry. Through the projects we have selected, pioneering companies and universities will be able to create new jobs and expand their markets.”

Winning projects included a 3MWe carbon-capture pilot plant in Doncaster and the development of high-pressure turbines.
