Workers: cut down on cuppas to save energy!

Workers are being told to cut down on having cups of tea on their own to save small businesses money on energy.

Research commissioned by energy supplier E.ON into hot drink making habits in the UK workplace has revealed people drink 3.1 cups each every day – a total of 41.2 million cuppas.

E.ON says UK SMEs could slash a total of £32million if businesses ask their staff to take part in more “collaborative” tea rounds.

A third (35%) of workers don’t join in with drink rounds while more than a fifth (22%) always fill the kettle to full, even for just one cup.

The research found solo tea-making was most prevalent in the hospitality and education sectors.

Anthony Ainsworth, Sales and Marketing Director at E.ON said: “Putting the kettle on for a round of drinks is more efficient than making a single cup of tea from a full kettle, especially if your colleagues will simply have to re-boil the water moments later.

“With over 40 million hot drinks made every day in offices, shops, restaurants and factories across the UK, tea-lovers could be enjoying a more efficient brew just by getting involved in the tea round – and they may get to know their colleagues a bit better too!”

For the two thirds of SMEs which rely on a traditional kettle (64%), E.ON also suggests switching to a more energy efficient eco-kettle.
