Indian power cuts prompt protests

Indian power cuts prompt protests

Power cuts lasting for up to eight hours in the Indian capital are said to have sparked protests in the nearby towns this week.

There were reports of residents blocking traffic and burning tyres after weeks of power and water shortages, as New Delhi (pictured) faced temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celcius.

While the country waits for its monsoon season to begin, temperatures have been so high the Indian Government has pushed back the beginning of school term for children by a week, according to the Times of India.
