An Australian trade Minister has been a hit on the internet after his song and dance parody video has gone viral.
Craig Emerson belted out the lyrics "no Whyalla wipeout, there on my TV" to the tune of Skyhooks' 1970s hit Horror Movie during a television interview yesterday.
His parody was a response to a comment made by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who said a carbon tax in the country would wipe the South Australian city of Whyalla and other towns off the map.
However, apart from the parody, he also stressed the carbon price effects will be “modest”.
He said: “The price effects are very modest – 70 cents in every $100, or in terms of weekly household bills, $9.90 a week with compensation on average of $10.10 per week...This has been the mother of all scare campaigns by Mr Abbott but the truth will be in the living of the carbon price and the truth is the price impacts will be very modest and there will be substantial compensation.”
