Booze store gets an energy bargain

A UK off-licence chain claims to have saved almost £500,000 a year on their energy bills across its stores.

Bargain Booze said its 100 stores have reduced energy bills by an average of 41% - or £5,000 a year - by introducing initiatives such as efficient lighting, lower-energy refrigeration units and energy-management systems.

The off-licence chain is now encouraging all of its 550 franchise stores to get involved, expecting to save £3 million a year.

Mark Crabtree, Commercial Director of Bargain Booze said: “We now have a range of different approved energy-saving devices ranging from simple things like efficient lighting and heating to advanced systems that allow retailers to control energy usage intelligently with timers, sensors and even remotely via the internet.”
