UK housing company to invest £273,000 in solar

A British housing provider is set to invest £273,000 in solar panels across seven sites in London and Hull to help cut carbon emissions.

Sanctuary Group, who conducted a pilot study in care homes, university halls and a call centre, found the solar installations could save nearly £40,000 a year and cut more than 50 tonnes of carbon emissions. This, over a period of 25 years, is expected to save £1million in fuel consumption with a reduction of more than 1,250 tonnes of carbon.

Ian McDermott, the company's Chief Operating Officer said: “Our research demonstrates there are significant long-term reductions in carbon emissions to be made by introducing renewable technologies, such as solar panels, to commercial properties.”

The seven sites will be monitored to see how much energy is saved before installations are put in across Sanctuary's other buildings.
