Take up expensive bills with your supplier, say EnergyUK

Following a report from uSwitch which suggested bills would start to become “unaffordable” for consumers in the next few years, the body representing power suppliers has suggested worried bill payers should get in touch with who sells them their energy to see what help is on offer.

Christine McGourty, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Energy UK said: “Anyone with concerns about paying their energy bill should contact their supplier to find out what help may be available.”

uSwitch revealed yesterday that should trends continue as they are by 2015, 59% of people will be going without adequate heating and 36% will be switching their heating off because of not being able to afford energy.

The EnergyUK spokeswoman added high priced bills were generally out of their control: “Britain is more reliant than ever on gas from abroad and global prices can be volatile, depending on international political and economic circumstances.  On top of that, the costs are rising of the environmental and social obligations added to bills and using the energy infrastructure.”
