Bolivia takes control of Spanish power plant

Bolivian President Evo Morales announced yesterday that his government has nationalised the country’s electricity sector after seizing control of its main power grid from a Spanish-owned company.

Mr Morales ordered the military to take over the subsidiary of Spanish power company REE, which runs around three-quarters of Bolivia's power grid, reports claimed.

According to the BBC President Morales said at a May Day ceremony: "In honour of all Bolivian people who have struggled to recuperate our natural resources and basic services, we are nationalising Transportadora de Electricidad".
