Cameron’s speech snubs green policy

Campaigners have dismissed David Cameron's speech to the Tory Party conference today as a snub to green energy policy.

Despite the Prime Minister's heavy emphasis on environmental concerns throughout his rise to power, there was no reference to his promise to be the "greenest government ever".

Craig Bennett, Friends of the Earth's Policy and Campaigns Director said: "This speech did little to lend Cameron's pledge to lead the 'greenest Government ever' any ring of truth."

Leonie Green, at Renewable Energy Association echoed his dismay: "It's very disappointing that they haven't mentioned the renewable targets specifically, because the economy and consumers stand to benefit from them."

She added that Lord Sterne has even signalled that renewables are one of the best targets for investment.

Mr Bennett called on the Prime Minister to "show bold leadership to ensure our energy supplies are affordable and secure and help UK plc benefit from the new jobs and business opportunities that building a low carbon economy will bring."
