Energy firm E.ON has strengthened its gas strategy for Europe with the commissioning of a new LNG hub. Based in Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe, the new Gate terminal will supply E.ON Ruhrgas's north-west European market with some three billion cubic metres of LNG, a quarter of its total yearly capacity.
Hans-Peter Floren, at E.ON Ruhrgas said: "The official commissioning of Gate is a major step in our efforts to build a regasification portfolio across Europe and ensure that LNG has access to all E.ON markets. Cost efficiency and a favourable geographical location for the markets in north western Europe speak in favour of Gate terminal."
The terminal is a joint venture between two Dutch companies, N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and Royal Vopak.
