The UK's largest solar plant has opened in Wilburton in Cambridgeshire. Boasting 21,700 solar photovoltaic panels, the farm will generate 5MW of energy which could power up to 1200 homes.
Constructed by Abbey Renewables the scheme aims to save over 55,000 tonnes of CO2 over a 25 year period compared to conventional energy generation. Each panel will be tilted at an angle of 25 degrees from the horizontal to maximise efficiency.
Costing £13m, the farm has had a good reception from local residents who have backed the development.
