The boss of E.ON has hailed today's eagerly awaited Electricity Market Reform White Paper as a "good start in stimulating growth." However, the Chief Executive said that it is not just up to companies such as E.ON and the government but equally important for consumers to chip in.
Dr Golby said: "After all the cheapest power station is the one that we don't have to build because our customers have become so energy fit that the demand simply isn't there."
"While the onus on the energy companies is to produce, transport and supply energy as efficiently as possible, we must also remember that this is not just about companies like E.ON and the Government, this is also about helping our customers who have a vital role to play in all of this."
A number of ways he suggested for homeowners to become "energy fit" included, the insulation of homes, taking control of their own energy usage, and even generating their own power.
