The Channel Tunnel has cut its carbon footprint by a fifth, according to the Carbon Trust Standard (CTS).
The tunnel that connects the UK and France between Folkestone and Calais reduced its footprint by 20.5%.
The news comes as the cross-Channel operator Groupe Eurotunnel has been recognised for its wider carbon footprint reduction.
Jacques Gounon, Groupe Eurotunnel Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said: "The Carbon Trust Standard certification is a benchmark in this area in recognition of not only our engagement but also our achievement; a further reduction of 20% in Eurotunnel's carbon footprint, which follows a reduction of 44% which was certified in 2009."
The CTS is a branch of independent British think-tank, the Carbon Trust, and recognizes achievements in lowering greenhouse gas emissions in businesses and public sector organisations.
