Scotland is casting its search for offshore wind sites further afield. TheScottish Government is carrying out a second 'scoping exercise' in Scottish territorial waters out as far as200 nautical miles to find new areas for development.
The first round of researchthrew up several sites up to 12 nautical miles out, some of which have been accepted as potential development areas. Others have been rejected because of the impact they might have on fishing communities, the environment or Ministry of Defence activities, according to the Scottish Government.
The Crown Estate Commissioner's Marine Resource System will help identify these new areas.A report on their findings will be released in July 2011.
