RenUK welcome end of MCS

A government scheme that comes to a close this week will be good for the wind industy, say RenewableUK.

The wind and marine energy trade association have said that it will eliminate uncertainty over what products are available for the Feed-in Tariff and improve confidence about turbines for purchase.

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme for green technologies ends on 30th June. From the 1st July only fully certified products (under 50kW), installed by an MCS-approved company, will qualify for the FIT scheme.

Indre Vaizgelaite, Renewable UK's Small Wind Systems Manager, said: "It is essential to have a clear list of certified products to help that vision to become a reality. The Microgeneration Strategy, published on 22nd June, will ensure that generating increasing amounts of energy becomes easier for householders and communities."

The MCS scheme requires small wind turbines to undergo intensive testing to ensure high quality and reliability.

Ms Vaizgelaite said the end user would benefit: "Robust industry standards embedded in the MCS scheme will in turn ensure that consumers can make informed choices when they make important decisions about investing in microgeneration technologies".
