Former serving officer takes the helm of nuclear protection

Lieutenant General Sir Philip Trousdell has been appointed as interim Chair of the Civil Nuclear Police Authority.

The CNPA is responsible for the Civil Nuclear Constabulary which provides a dedicated, on-site armed response capability for UK civil nuclear sites.

Lord Marland of Odstock, Minister for Energy and Climate Change welcomed General Trousdell, who served in the British Army for nearly 40 years until 2005. He said: "I wish him every success with this important work."

He will hold the post for up to nine months, when the Office of the Commissioner of Public Appointments will have chosen a permanent appointment.

General Trousdell takes over from Sir Chris Fox, who has stepped down. Lord Marland added: "I would like to thank Sir Chris for his work as Chair of the Civil Nuclear Police Authority. He has made a truly valuable contribution to the organisation."
