2010 carbon target missed

2010 carbon target missed

According to research published by think-tank Cambridge Econometrics, the UK has missed its target of reducing carbon emissions 20% on 1990 levels by 2010.

The group have actually estimated a 2% rise in carbon emissions during 2010, caused by increasing energy use across households, businesses and industry, resulting in an overall emission reduction of 15.5% by 2010.

Cambridge Econometrics recommend the UK should introduce firmer policies to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency as the link between economic growth and increased emissions hadn't been broken.

It suggested that current policies covering those industrial sectors that are outside the scope of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme weren't enough to change behaviour.
