Fuel duty protest at Ellesmore Port refinery

Fuel protesters have staged a 'go slow' protest and demonstration outside the Shell oil depot at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire.

Starting out from Manchester and North Wales, around 100 vehicles converged on the Stanlow Refinery before parking outside the gates and staging a foot protest, according to Cheshire police.

The Stanlow Fuel Protest and Direct Action Group organised the event on Sunday 8 May to call on the government to reduce fuel duty.

Cheshire Constabulary added that tankers continued to arrive and leave the refinery as normal throughout the protest. A spokesperson for Shell, which runs the site, said the protest was "not affecting operations".
