According to an ABB technologies sponsored survey nearly a third (30%) of UK manufacturers have no specific targets for annual energy reduction.
The survey also shows that a further 30% think the most effective way of saving on electricity costs is simply to change supplier.
Steve Ruddell, energy spokesperson for ABB Limited said money could be saved through improved industrial practise: “It concerns me that the people tasked with allocating the resources in industry are not more aware of how electricity is used.”
“The potential energy savings in industry are staggering. Realising these savings could help to substantially reduce CO2 emissions. However, our survey suggests people are looking for savings in the wrong places.”
Also of interest was businesses response to the Carbon Reduction Commitment scheme. 33% of those affected by the scheme recorded their CO2 ouput. However many said there was no point wasting money on the scheme as its goals weren’t clear enough.
52% of respondents had experienced price hikes over the past year which ABB thinks that the cost of energy is at least being thought about a bit more.
