Are you doing your 5 Greens a day?

Staffordshire University has launched a campaign to promote sustainable living, called Are you doing your 5 Greens a Day?

The campaign encourages staff and students to do five environmentally friendly things a day, such as cycling to work, drinking and eating Fair Trade goods, or recycling cans and bottles.

It is part of a wider Sustain Staffs initiative, which includes a £750,000 interest free loan scheme for investment in energy efficient technology. The university hopes this will result in savings of £200,000 in utility bills and 12.2 per cent in carbon emissions, with all initiatives paying back in five years or less.

Adam Van Winsum, Environmental Coordinator for Staffordshire University, said: "The Sustain Staffs identity demonstrates to our staff, students and the local and wider community, that environmental sustainability is important to Staffordshire University, in fact it's one of our core values.

"The new 5 Greens a Day campaign gives people achievable targets towards a more sustainable lifestyle and we hope it will inspire as many as possible to do their bit for the environment."

Other aims of the scheme include a 26% reduction in CO2 emissions from 2008 to the end 2013.
