Durham Crematorium to recycle waste heat

Durham Crematorium to recycle waste heat

Durham County Council have approved plans for a £2.6 million project to make the Durham Crematorium "cleaner and greener".

New environmentally friendly cremators will be installed alongside a mercury abatement plant.

Once complete, the energy produced by the new plant will then be recycled to heat the building.

The work is essential to make the crematorium comply with new legislation that requires the removal of mercury from crematorium emissions by December 2012.

Work will begin next month, with the installation of the new machinery planned for early 2012.
