Horizon applies for nuclear power licence

Horizon Nuclear Power has applied to Ofgem for an electricity generation licence for its proposed nuclear power station at Wylfa on the isle of Anglesey.

Wylfa was last year included in the government's draft nuclear National Policy Statement, which listed sites deemed strategically suitable for nuclear development.

Horizon Nuclear Power is a joint venture between RWE Npower and E.ON.

Meanwhile, India is set to generate 35% more nuclear power this year thanks to imported uranium.

The uranium is coming from Russia, Kazakhstan and France, with the latter's Areva said to have so far supplied 300 metric tonnes of the atomic fuel.
