UK homes equal Brazil beach for temperature

As the Rio carnival kicked off this weekend, new research shows that one in five UK households are basking in temperatures equivalent to those on Copacabana beach.

The study exposes the younger generation as being most responsible for overheating their homes. In comparison with those aged 45-54, people between 25-34 are four times more likely to lounge in temperatures of 27ºC or above.

The research found that Scots are the biggest heat-seekers, with a quarter of respondents (24.2%) admitting to keeping their living rooms at 23ºC or hotter, compared to only 13% of respondents in the southwest of England.

The study, carried out by energy firm E.ON, also found that over half (53%) of all households leave on lights or heating for their cats and dogs while they're out, and 2% wear only their underwear when they're relaxing in their living room.
