O2 boss to talk up sustainability

The boss of O2 will be one of the speakers at The Sustainable Business Summit in London next month.

Ronan Dunne will join The Carbon Trust's chief executive Tom Delay to discuss a case study looking at the future definitions of sustainability and how a business will address them.

Last week O2 entered the smart meter market with a multi-million supply deal to use its technology to upgrade and simplify the meter network of G4S Utility Services, one of the biggest smart meter firms in the UK.

O2 was the first mobile network operator to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in January 2009 and since then has cut CO2 emissions by 30,000 tonnes.

Mr Dunne has stated that "a smart business is a sustainable business".

In a recent sustainability survey for the Carbon Trust, he added: "This is not just about the cost savings you can achieve through cutting waste. If good business is about delivering on what your customers value, and if they increasingly demand sustainable products and services, then investing in this area makes business sense."

The Sustainable Business Summit takes place on March 17.
