Shopping centre uses Europe’s largest heat pump

A shopping centre in the City of London is using the largest ground source heat pump in Europe.

The geothermal heating and cooling system has been installed at a depth of 150 metres at One New Change shopping centre, near St Paul's Cathedral.

And the geothermal system is not the only renewable innovation at the centre. The exterior skin of the building is a glass coated in solar control glazing, limiting heat gain inside which in turn will reduce the amount of cooling needed during warmer months.

"The renewable energy system will deliver carbon reductions, cost savings and a comfortable work environment, making it a truly sustainable building for the future," said Patrick Sheriff from Geothermal International, who designed the system.
