Do Scots need convincing about going green?

Scotland's government has launched a new strategy to engage with the public about its ambitious green targets. The message is clea, targets won't be achieved unless business and the public believe the politicians are doing the right thing.

The strategy has a focus on education and touches upon how Scottish youth can explore the skills needed for a low carbon future as well as what people can do in their daily lives to save energy.

Roseanna Cunningham, Environment and Climate Change Minister said: "This is a huge opportunity for Scotland to confirm our leading international position on the climate change agenda. It is great to see so many organisations unite to support these key changes, and play their role in ensuring Scotland's low carbon future."

Latest figures from the Government are for 2009 which show renewables met over 27 per cent of Scotland's electricity use. The document outlines ways in which Scotland will further meet their Renewable targets- with 80% of electricity coming from renewable sources by 2050.

Leaders of industry were keen to stress the importance of a balanced approach to change. Crawford Gilles, Chairman of Scottish Enterprise, said: "We welcome the strategy, which marks an important step forward in bringing together the relevant communities across Scotland to achieve economic and social transformation."
