Global oil players meet to identify technology gaps

Global offshore players will meet in Aberdeen tomorrow to draw up a blueprint to meet the oil industry's biggest technology challenges.

BP, Kuwait Oil, Statoil, Total, Maersk and Tullow will be among the organisations gathering to identify technology gaps in the sector.

The meeting is being convened by the ITF, a not-for-profit organisation that acts as a broker for oil and gas industry technology solutions.

As well as the major offshore companies attending, there will be representatives from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the Technology Strategy Board and Scottish Enterprise.

ITF managing director Neil Poxon said: "Technology development is a growing priority for the oil industry and we expect there will be serious debate about exactly what those most important challenges are for 2011. The conference provides a platform for frank discussion about the role new technologies have in safely extracting remaining resources and locating new fields."

Other ITF members include ConocoPhillips, DONG Energy and ExxonMobil.
