Heat maps to aid in low carbon policies

Heat maps to aid in low carbon policies

Heat maps are to be drawn up of several local authorities in the East Midlands to help them fine-tune low carbon policies.

The maps will be part of an evidence package funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and put together by Land Use Consultants, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and sustainability analysts SQW.

Land Use Consultants has carried out similar energy assessments in the south east and north west regions.

The heat mapping will be done by the Centre for Sustainable Energy, is a national charity which works to promote sustainable energy policy and practice. It recently put together heat maps of London and the south west.

SQW will assess the potential of energy generation from different types of waste.

East Midlands Councils' director of strategy Andrew Pritchard said: "This important study will provide a solid basis for the development of local policy to help meet national targets for low carbon energy generation and combined heat and power schemes."
