Scotland’s biggest turbines targeted for Highlands

An energy company plans to build the tallest wind turbines in Scotland in the Highlands.

Up to 28 turbines standing almost 460ft tall would be installed in a forest near Drumnadrochit by Druim Ba Sustainable Energy, which claims that the wind farm could power electricity for 40,000 homes.

Proposals for the farm still require planning permission, but if granted the facility could be up and running by 2013.

At a consultation meeting this week, DBSE director Debbie Chawner said the construction of the farm could involve jobs for around 100 local people.

She said DBSE is committed to becoming part of the local community. "We don't want to construct and go. We want to make a genuine contribution to the community."

DBSE has been created specifically to deliver the wind farm project and is part of EFR (Scotland), a subsidiary of the European Forest Resources Group.
