CRC registered tally at 2,431

According to the latest Environment Agency figures, there are 2,431 companies registered with the CRC scheme so far... and less than a week to go until its deadline.

That means that even using the most conservative estimates, there are over 1,000 organisations yet to file their paperwork with the Environment Agency.

The deadline for CRC registration is September 30 and after that the EA can, in theory, fine all firms who did not register on time. However, the latest line from the EA is: "We will be using a light touch approach to ensure we only take actionwhere absolutely necessary."

Those already registered include NHS trusts, councils, retailers such as Tesco, Morrison, and Marks and Spencer, shipbuilders Cammell Laird, Harrods and the Football Association. Oh, and the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
