CRC deadline stays put

CRC deadline stays put

The CRC scheme was supposed to affect 5000 companies but that figure has been revised to between 3,500 to 4000, of those less than half have pre-registered ahead of this month's deadline. The EA says they won't be offering an amnesty or extending the deadline to late entrants but will continue to offer support to those who need help registering.

A spokesperson from the agency said the 30th September deadline wouldn't be moved but, "the sooner organisations get in touch with the EA to start registration, the sooner we can help them through the process. There is a dedicated helpdesk in place to help with the CRC and a helpline to help businesses get in touch"

But some are critical its all been left too late. Dave Lewis, head of Business Energy Services at npower said, "Many businesses are facing challenges in compiling all the information required. Many are hoping the Environment Agency will extend the registration period.

"Registration is the focus at the moment because of the deadlines but it's the beginning of the scheme not the end. The CRC requires businesses to be actively monitoring and reporting on their energy consumption those that are not doing this are already on the back foot"

The CRC started in April and despite a big information push including roadshows, workshops and endless statements by ministers registration has been poor. Uptake has improved recently with 200 extra business registering in just the last week. Those who fail to meet the deadline face fines
