Water use is the "forgotten energy saving opportunity" by policymakers, businesses and in homes according to the Energy Saving Trust.
The trust says CO2 from energy used to heat water in UK homes accounts for 5% of the UK's total carbon emissions and 30% of the average household's energy bills.
Now the trust has launched a website to help people work out how much CO2 is being emitted to heat water in their homes.
The calculator is intended as an interactive, easy to understand tool for people to make the link between water efficiency and energy efficiency, explained the trust's water strategy manager Andrew Tucker.
