Environment Agency bans UK air travel for staff

The UK Environment Agency has slapped a ban on its staff flying anywhere within England and Wales as part of a drive to cut its carbon footprint.

The agency said that the change in air travel policy will save approximately 30 tonnes of carbon a year.

Environment Agency chief executive Paul Leinster said: "Our restriction on domestic air travel builds on previous and continuing action on business mileage, energy use, waste to landfill and renewable energy generation. It's another important step in reducing our carbon emissions.

Agency staff are now not allowed to travel by air for journeys within England and Wales, nor for journeys between England and Paris, Brussels or other Eurostar destinations.
