Huhne and Hendry visit Sellafield

Energy Secretary Chris Huhne visited Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria a day after confirming to ELN that the government had put in place an arrangement to secure new nuclear plants.

Accompanied by Energy Minister Charles Hendry, Mr Huhne toured the plant last Wednesday and said: "The West Cumbria energy coast has a critically important role to play in relation to our nuclear legacy and potentially for new build."

Mr Hendry added: "This is a most exciting time for the nuclear industry. I wanted West Cumbria to be the foremost centre of nuclear expertise in the world, and what I've seen today reaffirms that view. The level of expertise and skills that the industry possesses here is world-class."

Mr Huhne told ELN last Tuesday that he had always been a "sceptical economist rather than an ideological ayatollah" on nuclear.
