Bingo halls aim for full house of savings

The Gala Coral group, which owns 150 bingo clubs in the UK, is bidding to cut its energy bill by £1m.

The company hired consultants UESL to review and overhaul its electricity use. UESL's senior energy manager Ashley Baxter told a seminar at Sustainability Live in Birmingham's NEC: "We went to every site, looked for the potential savings, and set a target for each individual club."

He explained how UESL sends reports to every club manager each week, which break down into half-hourly usage statistics. The results of these reports are collated into regional league tables, so managers can see how they are performing against other clubs.
