Nine global companies have announced the establishment of a new initiative to accelerate the transition to a net zero global economy.
The coalition includes Microsoft, NIKE, Starbucks, Unilever, Danone, AP Moller-Maersk, Mercedes-Benz, Natura&CO, Wipro and the Environmental Defence Fund (EDF).
The Transform to Net Zero initiative, aims to develop and deliver research and roadmaps to help businesses achieve net zero emissions no later than 2050.
The work will also focus on accelerating investments in technologies that could help this transformation and implement emissions reductions across the entire supply chain.
The alliance has also committed to providing stakeholders, investors and customers with public reports on progress towards net zero transformation.
Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, said: “No one company can address the climate crisis alone. That’s why leading companies are developing and sharing best practices, research, and learnings to help everyone move forward."
Andy Campion, Chief Operating Officer, NIKE, commented: "When it comes to protecting the playing field we share, our planet, there isn’t a moment to lose. That’s why we aren’t waiting for solutions to climate change, we’re coming together as global leaders to create them."
