Shell announces £350k for UK’s low carbon businesses

Shell has announced £350,000 of funding to support the UK's most promising low carbon small and medium-sized businesses.

Through its Springboard programme, the energy giant aims to help innovative and economically viable companies work to reduce carbon emissions - previous winner bio-bean turns coffee waster into sustainable biofuels and biochemicals.

The company is now selling its products in large retail outlets across the country and has collaborated with Transport for London to power public buses.

Shell says 84% of firms it has supported are still in operation within five years, compared to the national average of approximately 45%.

Sinead Lynch, Shell UK Country Chair said: “If you’ve got a brilliant low carbon innovation, we really want to hear from you.

"While we don’t have any equity in the businesses we support through Shell Springboard, we want to see them scale-up, attract private investors and play a part in shifting the UK to a low carbon economy."
