New tariff aims to slash EV charging costs

Octopus Energy has launched what is claims is the first ever “time of use” tariff designed specifically for owners of electric vehicles (EVs).

It allows drivers to charge their cars at an “incredibly low” price of 5p/kWh for four hours each night – claimed to be the cheapest currently available on the market.

The company has partnered with charging firm MyEnergi to enable EVs to be automatically charged during the cheapest hours if consumers use its Zappi charger.

It provides 100% green electricity and is said to be 70% cheaper than a typical Big Six tariff.

ScottishPower also recently launched an EV tariff, which provides renewable energy at a fixed price until June 2020.
