Japanese firm to use UK AI software for battery storage

A Japanese firm has invested £5 million in a battery storage technology company in the UK.

Under the partnership, Itochu Corporation will use Moixa's GridShare software, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise the performance of batteries.

It can manage large fleets of deices to support solar generation, control electric vehicle (EV) charging and function as virtual power plants.

The Japanese firm plans to use the software in its own home battery products, which is expected to help its customers save money.

Simon Daniel, CEO of Moixa said: “Itochu is a major player in the global battery market and this partnership provides a real opportunity for us to expand our business in Japan and provide GridShare technology to many global battery challenges.

“GridShare optimises the performance of home batteries by learning patterns of household energy use and solar generation and adjusting to local weather and energy price signals. It can also help customers make more money by using their spare battery capacity to provide services that help utilities and electricity networks balance supply and demand.”
