Government fires up low carbon heat with £10m fund

The UK Government has launched a scheme to invest up to £10 million in low carbon heating technologies.

Businesses can apply for a grant of £200,000 to £2 million to develop technologies that reduce carbon emissions associated with providing heat and hot water to buildings.

The Innovation Fund will consider proposals for a technology, process – i.e. a way of combining technologies to deliver better low carbon heating – or a tool, i.e. software and/or hardware to reduce the complexity of installation, or a combination.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said it mainly expects gas-driven systems like heat pumps, hybrid systems like combining gas and electric heating and electrical systems to be supported.

However, renewable systems, particularly innovations that incorporate solar thermal in the overall heating system, are also in scope.

Applications should be submitted by 2nd January 2018.

The UK's energy mix will be part of the discussions at Energy Live Expo on 2nd November at the QEII in London. There are limited free tickets for energy end users.
