Statoil partners up for energy innovation drive

Statoil has partnered with an entrepreneur network to launch a global accelerator programme for ambitious energy innovators.

Alongside Techstars, the energy giant aims to identify, recruit and select the world’s 10 most promising energy projects to receive initial funding of $120,000 (£88,600) which will help them compress two years of development work into 13 weeks.

Hosted in Oslo, the accelerator will see the innovators mentored by a global network of experts from a range of companies to help develop ideas and technologies to solve business challenges in new ways.

Statoil and Techstars plan to announce the main theme for the programme in November and open the application process in next February.

Statoil’s Vice President for Corporate Innovation, Ragnhild Ulvik, said: "The ideas and solutions of the future are as likely to come from outside the company as within.

"That is why we are excited to engage with innovators and entrepreneurs from all over the world, working on new businesses and developing potentially transformative technologies and business models."
