Third Energy submits UK fracking plans

Third Energy has submitted its final fracking plans for shale gas in North Yorkshire.

The Hydraulic Fracture Plan (HFP) for the Kirby Misperton area will be considered by the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) and the Environment Agency (EA).

The HFP sets out how the company would control and monitor the process and is a condition of its environmental permit, which was granted last year.

The document states: “In broad terms, the HFP seeks 1) to provide the OGA with an assurance that the risks associated from seismic events will be de Minimis and 2) to provide the EA with information about the techniques being deployed to monitor fracture height growth and fracture geometry together with the assurance that groundwater will be protected and that no fractures will extend beyond the permitted boundary.”

The Environment Agency said it would carry out a detailed technical assessment of the plan and publish its decision following that.

Third Energy would then require final approval from the OGA.
