UK and China sign MoU to assess climate risk

The UK Committee on Climate Change (CCC) will work with China on climate change risk assessments.

It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China National Committee on Climate Change in Paris.

The two-year collaboration highlights the importance of “robust” risk assessment to inform climate change policy.

It follows an agreement between Prime Minister David Cameron, Energy Secretary Amber Rudd and their Chinese counterparts during President Xi Jinping's visit in October.

Lord Deben, Chairman of the CCC said:  “To co-operate with [China] … will help us to think not just about today and tomorrow but the day after tomorrow.”

The CCC suggests the government should commit to an emissions cut of 57% by 2030.
