London gets green flag for all-electric racing finale

London has been confirmed as venue for the finale of the new Formula E electric racing series.

Set to begin in September next year in the Chinese capital of Beijing, a provisional 10-race calendar spanning four continents has been released by the FIA, the world's governing body of motor sport.

The second leg will take place in Malaysia, followed by Hong Kong, China, Uruguay, Argentina, Los Angeles and Miami in the US, Monaco, Germany and finally the city of London, which will host the season finale on 27th June 2015.

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Championship promoters Formula E Holdings said: “The provisional calendar sees us race in the heart of some of the most well-known cities in the world providing a fantastic backdrop and showcasing electric vehicles in their favoured urban environments.

“We will now focus on finalising the design of each of the circuits as well as working closely with all our partners to ensure we deliver each of these events in the most sustainable way possible.”

The car which will be used by all ten teams was unveiled in Germany earlier this month. The racing calendar will now be considered by the FIA before being finalised when the FIA World Motor Sport Council meets in December.
